Make

If you take things apart, or you put things together, get Make magazine from O'Reily.com
Great stuff! Kite arial photography, magnetic stripe reader, backyard monorail, lots more.
While we are on the subject of magazines, I&T is another of my favorites. It was called American Heritage Invention and Technology. I has stories about the development of inventions and engineering. My favorite feature is "They're Still Here" about old machines still being used, like the machine that made all the metal kazoo's you have ever seen. They also have articles on newer inventions, some complex, some simple, like the helmet.
I also get Science News, a weekly. I often see stories in the newspaper that were in Science News a month before. I like that they ask someone in the field about each news item to get their comments.
