Star Trek is Gone

It is sad that one of the longest running franchises ever is now dead. No movies or series are expected. It was inevitable. They forgot what made the original series fun: ideas. The last few years have had action, plot twists, and lots of drama, but not so much fun. Was there ever a funny episdoe of Enterprise? I don't know. I lost interest when they had a gratuitous nearly nude scene a male and a female crew member had to rub some salve on each other. It had nothing to do with the plot. As much as we make fun of William...............Shatner, he could entertain. Scott Bakula was boring. He has no charisma. Picard was stiff, and too formal for fun.
Captain Kirk was always breaking the rules for what is right, and that is the stuff of American mythology. Brer Rabbit, Robin Hood, even some rappers show the attitude of rebelious rightousness.

Almost every show had a prologue with a predictable joke. There was always an interplay of Freudian aspects of the main officers. In the later series, there was a temporal anomaly in every other episode. There were attempts to sound scientific, like when Data says the output of a phaser rifle is 1.06 megaJoules per second. A joule per second is a Watt. That is the definition. In one episode of The Next Generation (TNG) they said everything in space emits radiation at a wavelength of 21 cm. Not everything, just ionized hydrogen! Don't explain stuff. It is one of Clark's laws: "Technology sufficiently advanced is indistinguishable from magic."

Star Trek was created by Gene Roddenberry from the inspiration of Gullivers Travels. The closest thing to it recently was Star Gate. they explored strange new worlds using a realy big transporter. After a few years, half the cast left, and most of the writers too: It just is not fun anymore. I wonder if they hired former Star Trek writers?
