Election Time

I am tired of politics. I voted yesterday, although I admit I was not as informed as I would like. The problem is getting the information. The papers report on what the candidates say, but seldom add any real information. I don't want to trust the cadidates to tell the truth.
Here is my answer: A printed debate in the newspaper. (Live debates are good if you want to elect a member of Parliament, or a talk show host. We need content, not flash and charisma.)

1. A panel of neutral parties, like the newspaper editors, the League of Women Voters, or even a survey create a list of issues. Each candidate on the ballot would be able to add issues.
2. Each candidate states their position on the issues. No criticism of the opponents would be allowed. The newspaper would check facts and voting history, if any, of the candidate on the issue. This would all be published in the newspaper.
3. Rebuttal and criticism of opponents specific statements, with fact checking again.
4. Questions from the editors or others, and answers from the candidates.

Thsi would sell a lot of papers, and yield a lot of good information to the voters. I think it would be good for democracy.
