Enrico Fermi was a great scientist, and I want to read a biography if I can find one.

shows a close view of one tiny spot of sky where there seemed to be nothing.
It is filled with galaxies, and each glaxy has billions of stars. Somewhere there should be some life like us. There is an equation describing the liklihood of life outside Earth, the Drake equation:

So Fermi's question was simply, "So where are they?"
I wonder if the lack of alien life could be a warning that we are headed for disaster.
